Summer Iris

For Christmas gifts this year I made several homemade items. This is the first time I have done this, and had such a blast doing it. Each piece I made was selected perfectly for each and every person.

Summer Iris by Blackbird Designs was no exception. I made this for my Grandmother and switched up the colors (of course) using Crescent Colors and Weeks Dye Works on 32ct Vintage Woodsmoke. Went over to Joanns and found the perfect cotton backing and added ric-rac to the edges. With each and every stitch, I was thinking of great times that I have had with Grandma, and trying to guess where she might end up putting this super cute piece. She did open this gift early and was so delighted that I made it for her. To hear her excitement and laughter made it even more special. I wasn't able to be with her this year, but I did feel like I was right there. I am so glad I am able to still call her up and share stories with her!

  1. It's so pretty and I knew when I saw it that whoever received it would love it. I think that handmade gifts are the best!! Of course, I never seem to find the time to do that, but I think of it!

  4. What a beautiful piece and I'm sure your grandmother will cherish always, knowing that you made it just for her. Your story reminds me of times with my grandmother - I do miss her so very much.

My goal in '10 is to make my gifts for next Christmas. Of course, this is always my goal and I always fail to accomplish it - '10 maybe the year of success.

    Happy New Year!
