But instead of going into all of that, lets dive right into fun! I havent stitched much in the last months, but it has been over 6 weeks since I have stitched. Its a shame right?? Well, what can you do. An update on this blog is seriously overdue :(
Working on Roses de Mai from Reflets de Soie, changed all the colors (of course) and really like the way it is turning out.
I have to continue working on her, she is really something. But, of course my wandering eye.... LOL.
Since I havent stitched since who knows when, I decided I needed to start something new :)
So, I went into the basement and found a box of stash, rummaged through and found Mary Ann Farmer from Scarlet House and WOW! I love her!!

Stitching her on a gorgeous piece of 45ct Vintage Navy Bean Lakeside Linen with a silk conversion, she is a winner. I sure do enjoy stitching on the 45ct!! Roses is 40ct due to the specialty stitches, but it is not the same!! So another wip to the list.

I know several bloggers do a year in review, and it is so much fun to recap what was accomplished-- and I enjoy reading your blogs. I don't think I will find time to do another post this year. So for me, not so much on the stitching/quilting front, but it has been a super year non the less. A wonderful year has been had-- full of hard work, laughter and tears. I look forward to the new year with a ton of silver bells. A new year with new beginnings and so much excitement and of course hard work-- isn't there always hard work involved in great things?? Hopefully there will be a few blog posts!! LOL. I look forward to this excitement with my family and friends.

May your Christmas Season continue to be wonderful and bright. Full of hope and love. Remember the real reason for the season, born to us on Christmas day :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
I have 2 pics to share with you, both are of finished items completed at the end of last month.

Birds of a Feather OOP Spring; 1 of 4 in a seasonal series. I stitched her on Vintage Maritime White 45ct with a silk conversion, she is approximately 14 x 18 in size which is a great deal smaller then the charted version of 20 x 24! Yikes!!

Next up is the Lattice Quilt, hard to get the whole picture in with the borders etc., but you can see the colors on the top, another job done :) I love the way it turned out and to think that I had 756 pieces to sew all back together! Funny concept of cutting perfectly good fabric into a bunch of small shapes and re-sewing them all back together. Crazy huh?!!!
Summer is a great time to catch up on so many things, it is always hard to find time to blog about our experiences, but as long as we are having fun, that is all that matters!!

Until next time :)

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-87012605603896645992014-07-22T01:50:00.000-04:002014-07-22T01:52:47.494-04:00Its been quiet hereI have been soo distracted by other things these days, blogging
obviously hasn't been top priority. Its fun to look at the blogs,
however its been kind of quiet these last few months.
Life has been quite busy these days, so many things to do, so many
people to visit with and places to see. I have made great progress with
my Spring Birds of a Feather project, no picture to share, its a
wrinkled mess and I would be most embarrassed to show her in the state
that she is in :( So, maybe next time. I am almost finished with it,
maybe in the next few days??

I have been obsessed these days with quilting though, sewing, sewing,
sewing and collecting beautiful cottons for quilts, I have visions of
these quilts piled high! Someday I know I will accomplish this!!
Everyone has to start from the beginning right?? For now, each
beautiful chosen fabric is collected-- a stash of cottons like we have
oodles and oodles of cross stitch stash (well not even close to that
high pile!! LOL).

My MIL several months back told me of this great quilting place that was
recently featured on the nightly news. Said that this woman had saved a
small town from ruins with her quilting. What? So out came the ipad
to find out about this fantastic place called the Missouri Quilt Company in Hamilton, MO. This woman has made her business grow with several
dozen folks helping her spread quilting everywhere-- quilting is not
hard!!! I was fortunate to learn the basics from a fantastic quilter
about 2 years ago, and wow, what a blessing (and a curse in the pocket
book!!) it was to spend time with her. She is a spitfire of a woman and
I have her on my shoulder each and every time I am quilting :)

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Missouri Quilt Company a
few weeks back and wow, what a stop this should be on every quilters
list!! As of right now, there are 5 shops--each dedicated to specific
fabrics. Ie, the main shop, reproductions, batiks, seasonal and
solids. You walk from one end of the street to the other, looking at
all these beautiful fabrics, with ladies and gentleman going out of
their way to help you with every thing you might need. There are
restaurants and a bakery, places to stay. Even the birth place of JC
Penny!! One of the shops-- the solids shop is in the location of his
first JC Penny Store!! (There is a JC Penny museum and you can see
where he went to school!)

This gal in MO, has made many tutorials to teach quilting to everyone.
No, you don't need a sewing degree to make quilts!! I did sign up for
her bi-monthly magazine called Block, each magazine is filled with 10
beautiful designs all with easy to use instructions and if I am not
mistaken, all have tutorials online? The year subscription I believe is
36 bucks.

for her daily door buster email!!
In the burgundy issue of Block, I am making the Lattice Quilt. I fell in love with the pattern and knew I had to sew it :)

So here goes nothing!! I bought the fabric and knew that I wanted to
make it bigger then it called for, so away I went. The mailman has had a
hay-day with the deliveries for this quilt, and who doesnt love
packages of fabric?? The fabric is from Jan Patek called Front Porch.
The line is older, so piecing it together was a fun task. I love a
good hunt :)

I started out with a layer cake and a charm pack to make it 1 1/2 times
bigger then called for and I now have 252 of these blocks sewn together,
pressed and ready to go.

Trimming up the corners

There are far more then shown in the above pic, but I had all of them on
the floor, chosen to the best they would be without going crazy!! I
have 18 rows of 14. So today I had some time to spare so I fired up my
featherweight and completed 3 of the 18 rows. Not to bad, 15 to go. I
am hoping to have the top done this month, I am adding a couple of
borders to it and ta-da! It will be ready to be dropped off at the
quilt shop for quilting!!

Hopefully next time I will have a finish of 2 kinds, Spring girl and the
Lattice quilt! I hope each and everyone of you is enjoying your
summers, doing everything you want and more!!!Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-91445463529338503822014-06-10T20:14:00.000-04:002014-06-10T20:14:05.508-04:00So many optionsIt has been a little over a week since I finished SDW and what a big decision it is to decide on what to stitch next! So I pulled out a bunch and really stitched on 2 this week. First up is Birds of Feather Le Printemps (OOP), one of four in a series of seasons.

She is so bright and colorful-- so far out of the box which is fun to do once in a while :) I am stitching her on 45ct Vintage Maritime white (one of my very favorites) along with a silk conversion a few years back. I have 1 more flower to go on the top left page, then 3 pages to go. Then the thought is, do I continue on with this series? I have L'Hiver (winter) started........
But easily sidetracked, I also have picked Peace by A Stitchers Hands back up. When this pattern was first released in 2008, 3 of us kitted it up immediately. Well, needless to say, all 3 of us still have it has the largest WIP in our baskets. Well, its high time to invest some stitching time in it.

Stitching it on 40ct Lakeside Sienna Night, 1 over 2 threads, with a overdyed silk conversion. Yes, you are reading correct, it is a BAP. I love the colors I chose for it. The best part is, each of the original 3 that kitted it up, we each chose 40ct linen, but each a different color. I LOVE this idea and each one is just so gorgeous. I hope to keep my momentum going on this one, I would love to actually see it finished :) Someone mentioned there has been some stitchers on Facebook that have been working on it; I am not on Facebook so I havent seen their progress. But its kind of fun there are others stitching on it also!!
I would love to see that list of WIPs get smaller, but it is so hard as you all know. It is terrible. You finish one and want to start 5!! LOL. Time to get stitching on one of these great projects, so until next time! Thank for stopping by and have a super week!!

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-87633866166979725832014-06-02T13:59:00.000-04:002014-06-03T19:24:48.782-04:00Oh Happy Day!There are many reasons why today is a great day!! First it is my brothers birthday-- so Happy Birthday to you!! The sun is shining, the weather is nice and warm. Fun with friends and family. Lots of activity!! I cant believe it is June 2nd already, where the time is going I dont know. So many things have happened since the last time I have blogged (almost 2 months ago?????), its unreal. My nephew turns 1 this month. ONE??!!!!!!! Holy smokes! He was just born!!! Time is out of control these days. I wish we could slow it down quite a bit, but I know that is like hitting the mega millions or power ball. Not going to happen.

The last time I posted was about my SDW German Band sampler, and I must tell you, I have been trying my best to finish it. I really wanted to have it done by the 1st of this month, but I was a bit short. It has been so busy, I havent really had too much time to think, I have forgotten things I normally dont forget :( But, I did make huge progress on the sampler, in fact, last night I put the deadline into effect. Yesterday was the day I was going to finish it. Oh sure. With 5 1/2 bands to go on the lower left side, I was trying my best to be positive. I ran over on time yesterday-- (what else is new) and didnt start stitching until 8pm. Oh man, I dont know what I am going to do. I was determined though. Yesterday morning I chose the remaining colors for these bands, wrote them down and was ready to get right into it last night. With several old episodes of Fringe and Law and Order SVU, I was down to the last row at 3am this morning. I wasnt really tired, but knew the busy day I was going to have today, I figured I better hit it. So back up at 8:30, and after a cup of tea, I had the final row complete and SDW German Band Sampler was complete at 10am.

YEAH!!!!!!!!! I did it!!!!! So without any further rambling, here she is :)))
To achieve this look on my SDW, I chose to stitch on Lakeside Linen Vintage Fawn 45ct along with my conversion of NPI and AVS. It measures 8" wide x 31 1/2" long. When I first saw this sampler I was drawn to the variety of motifs, and the colors. After pulling the called for colors, I knew there was going to be another massive undertaking to recreate this sampler. But, the long and the short of it, it is completed and I am over the moon to have it done. It was a long time in coming, but worth it for sure.
What is next? I have a few ideas in mind, but you know what this means, a bit of digging in the basement to do a bit of stash diving :)))))))
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all are having a great start to your week!!!!
Thank goodness our snow shovels and snow blowers are on timeout-- hopefully for many many months to come. It was announced yesterday that the Cherry Blossoms in Washington D.C. reached there full bloom; the latest date in history. WOW! If you have ever seen these trees you know that they are just gorgeous!! All those beautiful pink and white petals falling all over the place, like a flowergirl walking down the aisle at a wedding :) Or like a blizzard of pink and white flakes!! It is very exciting to see this beautiful world we live in, full of color and wonderful springtime smells.
I ran out of time this week to post earlier, but I thought it would be fun to show my next section finished off on SDW.

I love the subtle colors for the alphabet and this is pretty much the palette for the rest of the sampler. The alphabet stitched up rather quickly which surprised me, I am not really a fan of stitching letters (on any sampler). They next row group of small motifs are super cute, but I am looking forward to stitching the peacock.... maybe this weekend I will get to him :))))

Until next time, enjoy this weather!!!!!Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-6153373747951062482014-03-31T09:17:00.002-04:002014-03-31T15:33:48.382-04:00Interesting :)In the US, when driving on many of our roads or highways, there is usually something to look at, whether it is a bunch of business-- retail or office buildings, shopping malls, restaurants, even houses.... Sometimes there is vacant land for what seems like hundreds of miles--literally just farming, desert, grass fields with animals grazing, trees, what else can you think of on nothing?? LOL. But in the US, we often have a variety of what some may call ART. In Amarillo, Texas; there is a strange place called Cadillac Ranch where you can pull over on the side of the road and in the distance maybe several hundred feet off you see this:

10 real Cadillac's buried nose first in some vacant land. Created in 1974 on a different field and relocated. It is a variety of different years. You many walk up to the cars, take your picture next to them; but it is now customary to mark your visit with spray paint, you may sometimes see the cars covered in solid pink, or white. Just kind of fun! (photo borrowed from RoadsideAmerica.com- I have been there but cant find my own pics as of this minute!)
While in Florida I spotted something similar on the side of the road near Tampa. These Airstream trailers also buried nose first in a field on the side of the road. You may not pull over and spray paint on these (private property) but it also resembles a variety of sizes, years and styles.

I cut the small Bambi off on the left side, but you can see it in the top pic, also, pretty good while riding in a car going 70+ mph right?!! I think its pretty cool, that we have these crazy things on the sides of our roads. Gives us something to talk about to our friends all over the world right? Has anyone seen either of these 2 things?
What is the strangest/interesting thing you have seen on the side of the road? I can think of sooo many different things!!!

On the stitching front, I have filled in the church on SDW German Band sampler! On Jane
Tindall, I spent forever filling in the grass located on the bottom of
that sampler and I knew I didnt look forward to filling in the church on
SDW but it has to get done. Unfortunately I knew I had kicked all of
my stitching elves out of my house so it was not going to get done
without me :(.

I am soo close to being halfway with this piece it is very exciting! It should start flying now that the solid filling in is complete :))) YEAH!!!!! LOL. I cant wait to start stitching again later tonight.
A while back I had a birthday and I wanted to share a very special gift I received from my good friend :) She did such an amazing job that I had to share it with all of you!

Tiny little pin cushion with a patchwork back on 40ct. You can see how sweet it is next to my scissors, soo stinkin cute!!!!! Thank you so much, it means the world to me having this from you :) I love it!!
Still a bit chilly, but I think we are in for some spring like weather, alot of rain has been coming, but its better then snow right??!!!!! Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic week!!

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-63573602312101694642014-03-24T12:05:00.003-04:002014-03-24T12:05:57.592-04:00Fun was had by all!A great time was had last week while visiting my good friend. We accomplished alot of fun little projects, stitched, laughed, watched old movies, and even finished her quilt! The men were having a great time doing all kinds of manly things, fishing, gardening, going to the home improvement store, and lots of other fun things.

We made this quilt top last fall, had it quilted over the Holidays, and this week, the binding was complete. Do you love it?!!! She did a fabulous job and I am so excited to see this beauty in her house!!

Even this fellow loves it!!!!!!!!

I had this furry friend sitting next to me all week on the couch while stitching and sewing. Just likes lounging next to you, keeps you warm :)
I purchased a piece of 52/60 Lakeside linen in Vintage Sand Dune over at the Attic a few weeks back and started the new Traveling Stitcher Ane Kirstine Larsen-- you know the one with the fabulous rooster??? Boy, I have never used the tudor silks or this count linen, but I tell you what, it is fabulous!!! I am hooked!!!! LOL

Not much to show, but its something, the border color is almost tone on tone, but in certain lights, it really pops. The letter M is so tiny!! I think the entire sampler is going to be something like 6 x 8". Can you just imagine?!!!!! It is sooo stinkin cute!! The Attic had a few models hanging on the wall in this 52/60 and I am so crazy (you can take that statement either way!! LOL) about how small they really are!!! I know for the few of you that have been working on this linen, you know exactly what I mean!!!
Now stitching on 45ct, its almost burlap!!!! LOL. Not quite like the 40ct, but its a really big difference. Even the feel of the linen is different. I really want to get SDW complete, which is a good thing, it has been long enough!

So the bottom pic is where I left off last night, and I can feel the final stretch of the church approaching this week. I want to get to those trees!!! LOL. Its something how this project is now all I want to focus on, its about time.
Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful week :)
What a fun day it is today right? Fun is when the Chicago river is green, beer is green, there are parades and a great reason to where a shade of green when you normally dont!! LOL.
Happy Birthday to my friend, you know who you are!!! Sorry the cookies werent what they were supposed to be, but looks arent everything! Taste is!!
I missed posting last week for just the simple fact that I really ran out of time. I didnt stitch at all on SDW sampler last week, I worked on a couple other things, but now I am back in full swing.

and finally a full length of what it looks like so far, almost at the halfway mark.

I even got the iron out for a nice presentation, after all, you cant really see much in a wrinkled mess :( I really love it, and I cant wait to get the church complete, so I can work on those trees!!
Enjoy Green today!!

I watched the last 3 hours worth and I am always excited to see everyone all dressed up. Who was your favorite? We don't go and watch movies in the theaters so I didnt really know much about them. The actors up for the Oscars are always popular names and you secretly wish for a specific individual to win. I still think Marty should win and Leo. I was glad to see Matthew win for best actor. And Cate Blanchett! Beautiful as always. I think Ellen did a great job hosting, pretty funny and that pizza stint was pretty good right?! Talk about audience participation!!
Each night over the last week I was able to find some me time, whether it was a few hours or just 1, I stitched on SDW. Can you believe it?! I am committed to finishing this next and I am surprisingly really enjoying it too!

I was hoping to finish the motif on the right side but almost there! Those little curly ques involved sure slow down my 'sewing' method of stitching. But, they will be soon a thing of the past :)
I look forward to another busy week-- (on so many levels!)
Sun is shining today, hopefully it is where you live, I know its been super cold-- great time to stitch under a nice warm quilt, along with a roaring fire!!!!! Have a good one :)
So pulling some out of the basement, I had it all over the floor. Would I start something new or continue on with another WIP?
After seeing Krista's gorgeous finish of her SDW German Band Sampler on her blog last week, the thought of pulling mine out was quite tempting. I haven't been in the stash bin in a while and looking at all these beautiful projects all waiting patiently to come out and play, I pulled out a few and layed them next to me on the couch. When I completed Jane I knew I had to choose just 1 :))
So SDW did pull out on top!!! Yeah!! With a few wonderfully encouraging emails from friends all over the world, I knew I was making the right decision! I actually am excited to work on this... which is a very good thing. Last year, I finished Dutch Beauty which was by far the largest project I have ever worked on; even more so when I didnt follow the symbols on the chart. I chose to stitch her by the picture of the chart-- which is what drew me in to love DB. This too was the case with the SDW sampler, (alot of the samplers I choose I do this too)-- I know its crazy, but in my mind I see it a specific way and when I see the colors chosen, I make adjustments.
With all of that said, I started working on the SDW with a few gals right after my DB days last year and I just couldn't get into it. I felt so bad, simply because they were all sooo excited! Choosing the colors charted for in the sampler were not the ones in my head, so I again would spend more time choosing the colors then stitching, which I just had gotten done with doing on DB. I so didnt want to do that again! ARRGHH!!!!
I am ready to do it again, just about a year later, I have pulled it out and layed the colors next to me. I have pulled out the colors for the motifs I will work on and it seems to be going alot more smoothly.
This is where I left off last year on SDW-

I call this section 1 of 4 sections to be completed, and with just the lower left hand motif to go in this section, I was determined! Enough already!!! LOL.

This is where I stopped last night in the picture below, choosing to start the church in the 2nd section. Since I am on a filling in a boat load roll, I thought I might get it out of the way.

I am stitching SDW on 45ct Vintage Fawn with my crazy conversion of NPI and AVS silks. I know there is not a way to duplicate this, so don't even ask. LOL.
When I was putting Janes silks back into the storage file, the dyelots are soo different from same color number next to it in the bin. AVS the most different, so beware, if you are using AVS, make sure to buy enough when working on 1 project, otherwise you might be disappointed. I was lucky to have been told ahead of time that more then a few skeins were needed for the grass on Jane, so I bought a hank instead and didnt worry a bit.
I am looking forward to seeing what gets accomplished on this WIP this week, and I look forward to sharing more pics with all of you next week!!!
Thank you for all your kind words on Jane, it is so fun to hear them!!

Have a great week :)
With that happening, I was still able to power out Jane Tindall. I have had a serious case of stitch-a** the last 3 nights, I was so determined that today was the day to finish this eternal stitching of grass. A great gift right?!!
So, without further rambling, here she is!

Stitched on 40ct Birds of a Feather Sandpiper with the called for Silk colors--with a few minor color changes she is my first WIP finished and first finish of 2014!!
With the sun shining brightly today, it is a beautiful day to go out and enjoy it :) I hope all of you have had a great weekend, and have a fantastic week!!

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-42053719391180867972014-02-17T11:51:00.001-05:002014-02-17T11:51:49.084-05:00The end is near? After a few solid nights of Olympics and stitching last week, I am much closer to the finish line with Jane. I am trying to get all of the "non-grass items" stitched so that I can just really fill in the rest and not worry to much about the counting part. My mind is starting to wander as to what I am hoping to stitch on after Jane is finished hopefully by the end of this month. Can I do it?!!!!! LOL.
Here she is so far!

I have to finish the bird and tree on the left, add a dog and the farmer. Then the process of the eternal stitching begins again :)))))

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-81600160613727728742014-02-06T19:33:00.000-05:002014-02-06T19:33:02.580-05:00Another Job Done!I finished the binding on my niece's quilt this week and I am exited to share it with you. She did such a great job choosing the 6 colors, selecting the borders and of course the backing and the binding. I dont think the shop could have done a better job with the color selections!

What do you think? Isnt it fabulous?!!!! Now I am trying to work on slowly filling in the grass on Jane Tindall and wowza, it is an eternal project. But, slow and steady wins the race!

Hope everyone is staying warm with all of this great white stuff!!!! I think its great :)))))) The more the better!!

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-15723114496165007952014-01-26T19:23:00.001-05:002014-01-26T19:24:23.422-05:00Enjoying life

It has sure been a while since my last post, but believe me, fun all around is being had. Not too much in the craft department, I wanted to make 5 quilts this January...... I made only 3 plus helped my niece make one. I still have time to start one, but dont think I am going to get around to 2 more :) No worries though, I did get back the 2 quilts I had quilted.
The Christmas one, the binding is finished and I am very pleased. My first standard size quilt complete.

I am now working on the binding of the flannel one. I now know why there are a bunch of quilters with a boatload of quilt-tops waiting. The quilting was very in-expensive for this quilt just a basic vine/swirl etc., and it is like a bargain compared to getting a cross stitch framed. Now, I know the quilting can get quite expensive, but I find its worth it, just like a purchase of a frame for my stitching.
I digress though, the binding is an easy task, just an eternal one. I am looking forward to finishing it and getting my stitching back out.
My niece's quilt turned out great, and she did most of the sewing, I helped her with the pinning, just to move it along, and the cutting. She doesnt have the strength just yet to hold it all still and get a straight line with the rotary cutter. She did an excellent job and I know she is pleased. She was excited sewing with my featherweight, she couldnt wait to tell her sewing teacher at school she made a quilt, on a machine older then her teacher :) LOL.

Her quilt too is now back from the quilter and I will help her with the binding in a few weeks. As she goes into high school next year, she is excited to transform her room into a new place. Going with her to the quilt shop was such fun! I talked with her about colors on the way over, and turns out, she likes the vintage feel too. Seeing the expression on her face the minute we walked in the place, I knew she was going to have a great time choosing all the colors for her very first quilt. She went to town, pulling bolts onto the bed and making selections. I am very proud of her :))))

This next quilt, is my 3rd one I mentioned and this I have dubbed the camo quilt. Why you ask? It all started out with my choosing 2 digital camo patterns- one in green and the other in tan. This is what happened :) Sooooooo many little cuts and pieces, this by far is the most involved quilt I have made. (Easy pattern for you experts!) I am looking for the perfect backing, so I am not sure when I will have this one quilted, and I am thinking about something a little more involved on this top, so stay tuned!
On the stitching front, I have continued to work on Jane Tindall, and she is coming along wonderfully.

Slow and steady wins the race right? In between the solid stitching on the bottom, and the binding on the quilt, I dont know what is slower...... But I am enjoying each and every bit of it so it doenst matter.
Last year you remember I had the biggest case of Stitch-A** stitching Dutch Beauty and this year we have been doing all kinds of activities. Skiing, relaxing, etc., etc. Just having a great time. No complaints that is for sure :)))
So until next time....enjoy your week!
Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-49671739858284894162013-12-31T18:17:00.003-05:002014-01-07T18:30:41.496-05:00Last Postfor the year. Can you believe it? I think we all say the same thing, each and every year. Well, too bad it hasn't slowed down for any of us!
I havent stitched much the later part of the year, I just havent felt like it. In the last couple of weeks, I did manage to take time and I made 2 quilts. I am excited about them and looking forward to making more. In fact, I just pulled out 3 I have 'kitted' up. Do you say that for quilting-- kitted? Either way, I am looking forward to those.
First up, I know that alot of you have had posted a year in review and I think that is so wonderful to go back and look at the amazing progress that was accomplished this year. I have completed several beautiful samplers-- coming to mind of course is Dutch Beauty and Elizabeth Mears.

Those among other fillers are 2 favorites I think I have done in all time, but then I look back at last year, and see a few others.

As promised in the last post, I took pics of the last 2 pieces I picked up from the framer. Above is Plum Street Samplers- Love Thy Neighbor, stitched on 40ct with called for cotton, framed in a burl frame-I actually picked this frame out, before I stitched this piece. I think it is similar to the one on the cover of the pattern-- but not the same. Burl wood has such a great texture and depth to it, it is its own work of art next to the sampler!
Below, is La D Da- Peace House. I LOVE this frame on this sampler. It is 2 3/4" wide on this super cute I think 5 x 7-- 40ct piece. Where oh where to hang them?!!!!

This coming year, I am not sure what will be accomplished on the stitching front, I have a start picked out for tomorrow, but I don't know if I will start it tomorrow, or in the next little bit. I am still plugging away on Jane Tindall, and finally starting the animals on the bottom. It seems like I have been stitching on her for years. But slow and steady right? Maybe she will be my first finish? I have to pull out my stash and play with it for a bit, perhaps I will get the bug back.
Until then, my desire for beautiful fabrics for gorgeous quilts continues :) There are sooo many options and I want to quilt them all!! LOL.
In the beginning of November you might remember I had made a quilt with my mom. We both used the same fabric grouping and each made something different. I had mine quilted over Thanksgiving and I finished the binding last week. It is amazing the difference of when you finish it. It is the equal to framing your sampler right?
I decided that a navy stitching on the back would be nice and the top is a neutral.

Above, is the 1st of 2 quilts I have made in the last couple of weeks. This one is made of flannel, a request by my husband, for my husband. It feels so nice, I cant wait to get it back from the quilter and snuggle under it! I bought this kit over the summer and needed some cold days to work on it, well, cold is here!!! LOL.
The 2nd quilt I bought also as a kit from a shop that was having an end of year inventory sale and I was thrilled to be able to participate. I bought this of course among other things-- kitted up a few other quilts. I am trying to be brave and piece the fabrics together. I have no issue changing the colors on my cross stitch, so quilting shouldnt be that hard right? It really has to do with how much fabric, like I mentioned before in a previous post.

A Christmas quilt, using 3 sisters Wintergreen fabric. I am crazy about the black in this quilt too :) It was a nice easy one to sew while watching some great Christmas movies!!! In a few weeks I will have them back from the quilter and hopefully will have more to bring. I am going to help my niece make a quilt for her room this week, we went to the quilt shop, she chose the colors she likes and we are going to make the same pattern as the above flannel one. Nice and easy for both of us, and also so we get it done before she goes back to school next week. I will take pics and share those with you next year :)

Until next time, enjoy the rest of 2013, and Happy New Year to all of you!!!!!!
I seem to remember the comment I made in the last post or so (or perhaps it was just in my head) was to share a few pieces I had framed a few months ago.
Without wasting anymore time, and leaving you all in suspense since last time, here we go!

Primitive Betties- With My Needle. I will have to do my best in remembering the linen, but I know it was 40ct Lakeside linen, perhaps maritime white? With the called for cotton overdyed threads. I finished this in 2010.

Also Primitive Betties- Live, Laugh, Love. Vintage Pearled Barley 40ct Lakeside Linens with the called for overdyed cottons. Yes, you have read correct on both, cotton. Sometimes its just easy with these small ones. But then again............ LOL. Also 2010.

Carriage House Samplings- Maria P. Oliver. Stitched on 40ct R & R something with my conversion to Belle Soie silks. Completed in 2009.

Willow Hill Samplings- Eleanor Jaegler. This is one of my favorite pieces. I stitched this on 48ct Lt Examplar from Lakeside. Yes, 48ct. The size is fantastic and I know exactly the silk overdyed thread I used-- I see it in my mind, but I cant remember the name. Japanese something, comes on a card similar to splendor cards. If you know what it is, just let me know too :) It is such fine silk, very comparable to the Tudor Silk from Gloriana. But at that time, Tudor didn't exist. This was also done in 2009.

Last but not least, is Queenstown Samplers- Elizabeth J Mears. The minute I saw this sampler, it was a must stitch. With a silk conversion to overdyes, and the need to start it NOW, the shop didnt have any 45ct and I wasnt able to get my hands on a piece of Vintage pecan butter that minute, I decided to start it on a piece of Vintage Pecan 40ct with the silks. Finishing this sampler this year, I couldnt wait to choose a frame and see it in all its glory. I LOVE the house, the alphabet, the flowers--- well I just love it all!!
I am so pleased as usual with my pieces and just have to find the perfect place to hang them now.

I have a couple more just picked up but I dont have pics of those just yet. I will share them with you shortly. Hopefully I can get my stitching bug back and share some beautiful WIPs I have going. But in the mean time..... thank you for visiting my blog.

I hope each and everyone of you has a Merry Christmas! It is such a wonderful time of year, of course after you get past all of the hustle and bustle. Relaxing, enjoying your families and remembering the real reason for the season.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
Its been so long since my last post, I almost forgot my login information! I suppose the only reason is just plain being busy. Or perhaps my lack of stitching motivation? I want to stitch, but no time. I havent really done much the last 6 weeks, other then work, visiting with friends and family, and then more work. Not much to share in the way of pics, but I did stitch up the 2 very expensive BBD market kits- Oct 31st and the other one, the stocking, cant remember the name this second. Cute, but really not worth it.

I dont seem to have a picture of the Oct 31st handy, but you know what it looks like. I dont know how soon I will be "finish" them......
I did complete some time ago Plum Street Samplers "Love Thy Neighbor" but I didnt take a finished pic of it, or if I did, I cant find it!! So here is one almost to the end.....

I love the colors in this one, and it was a fast one to stitch up. I know, I am supposed to be working on WIPs, but I have really given up on that idea. Who cares? That is my current thought. It is what it is! Ha! The comfort is, I am not the only one :)
I did go to one place I had on my bucket list sometime ago, and while on the latest trip to LA, I managed to find an hour to go to French General.

This is their retail location where a lot of great fun things take place. Classes to make the most beautiful jewelry, where items are resold from trips to France antique markets-- ie all antique linens, buttons, papers, pictures, lace, nightgowns, books, etc., etc., etc. I really needed a few hours, but from what I saw, I will definitely find time to go back!
Of course, they had there most beautiful antique quilts on display, and also their cotton fabrics, inspired from said quilts. Here is one pic for you to drool over

I did come home with a few things, and of course some fabric!!!! How could I not take any home????? I highly recommend this great stop, the gals are always super friendly (I have ordered from them online) and very helpful. For all things French General, this is it!!!
I want to make like at least a dozen quilts now!!! LOL.
I did make something fun with my Mom a bit ago, we both started with this box of strips from Moda- Adoring by Sandy Gervais. (pics borrowed from Moda-thanks)

What we both decided to do is remove the turquoise strips, and Mom chose to remove the navy also, I kept mine in. The strips were 4 1/2" wide by 42" or so long. Not really knowing the size of our projects would be, we just started with a small table top item, or display piece and went at it. We chose 2 different patterns and I can't be more thrilled with the outcome. Of course, I want to now sew hers! (Thank goodness there is another package! LOL). Starting around 10am, we spent the day cutting, organizing, sewing, laughing, pressing, cutting, pressing and sewing, and this is what we ended with at 6pm. Just in time for supper.

What do you think?! She ended up with a fabulous table runner on the right, (it is longer in the picture, but who really wants to see my crazy pants and socks on the left??!!) and I a wall hanging or small lap quilt. She finished the top to the back, the edges bond etc., etc. Me, I chose to wait on the finish and I ended up ordering some more of the navy for the back and some extra for the binding and will have that taken care of in the next few weeks. I just am thrilled with the difference of the 2 pieces, using the exact same fabric box. I am really scratching the surface of quilting, so I really don't know how much fabric is needed to give you the something in a different shape. Like these strips, sewing them together, and in different shapes, is really something else!!! I am always amazed. Like how you can get a quilt top out of 1 jelly roll. REALLY??!!!! I tend to want mine bigger, so 2 always is best for me :) AND, Thats why I always get yardage!! LOL.. If it calls for 1, I better get 3. If it calls for 2, I better get 5. I don't want to run out, and I think that this comes from stitching, and when the pattern calls for 1 skein, and I run out, I am not only annoyed I have run out, but livid that the next skein doesn't match..... Especially when you have WIPs or don't start it for a year. It is always better to get extra, and if you like it, definitely get extra!

So, there is a short and sweet update on what has been going on, I have more to share with you, via framing that I have had done this summer, along with a few other hot spots I have been to. But for now, its back to work!!
Have a great day, and thanks for your patience on my posts :)
I could hardly wait to get the iron out this morning to share with all of you one of my latest favorite finishes. Although finished this past Friday, things took up my time that took priority then posting to the blog. So, here is Weep Not from Notforgotten Farm

I couldnt be more pleased with this little finish!!! Changing the DMC to Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Arts and using 40ct Vintage Cedar Plank from Lakeside, this gem is a winner!
WOW!!!! I LOVE this!!! Isn't it fabulous????

I changed the way the eyes were done on the poor lost sister and changed up the dress colors a bit. Using the over-dyed threads really makes it pop--if it can for this subject. As you can see there is some 'flow' to the lost sister's dress, to me its more of a draped feel. I changed the hair color and well, just about changed everything! LOL. I used the colors as a guide and really went all out with the adjustments. So, no, there can be no conversion list to give simply because I couldn't duplicate it myself :)

I found these awesome antique bobbins at an antique store this summer and thought they were the perfect addition to all things black that I collect :) I love going to those kind of shops however the sewing supplies are usually very limited. When you do find them, it is always fun to look.
Almost October already. The weather for most of you has started to change, getting cooler, and the leaves are changing. I love the change in the leaves, the vibrant reds, golds and oranges are just amazing. Fall is a great time of year!!
Its also a great stitching time :) Heck, isn't anytime great for stitching??!!! Lol.

Fun was had all around and I finished up Poor Jack on Saturday night!

Finished on 40ct BOF Sparrow with cottons :) Cross it off the list!!!! Another WIP done under the belt. Get er done!!!!!! LOL.
Next I picked up Weep Not from Notforgotten Farm. Like I mentioned in earlier posts, I changed the DMC to WDW and GA threads for more of a murky, drab feel. After all, this topic is not supposed to be bright and cheery!!!!!! I chose Lakeside Linen Vintage Cedar Plank-- Which BTW is one of my new top favorite colors!!!! On 40ct this piece is stinkin cute. I'm looking forward to finishing this one this week also.

Who knows what will be after this!! So many WIP options. Stay tuned until next time.
Can you believe it is fall already? A friend of mine told me a couple days ago that Christmas is only 3 months away. WOWZA~!! I cant believe where this year has gone. Time to step into high gear!! LOL
I hope all of you have a great week :)Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-67612779117532254262013-09-17T14:21:00.000-04:002013-09-17T14:21:03.504-04:00WIP it out already! One thing that alot of us have a hard time with is WIPs. I know there are some very disciplined stitchers out there who work on only 1-3 at a time but that is not my case. I used to be that way and over the years have picked up some bad habits!! LOL. I LOVE to start projects, but I also LOVE to finish them. I love bringing them to the framer and enjoying the fruits of my labor. I decided that my list of WIPs was really out of control, well its beyond out of control and that a few of them I have going I havent even put on the list because I thought I could get them done faster. Obviously we all know how that goes also :(. Not like I haven't done anything the last couple of weeks-- finishing up the quilt top shown last week; I also stitched up a model for the LNS of With Thy Needle and Thread Ltd edition kit from St Charles 2013. I chose a great Lakeside Linen and used the called for WDW colors.

I am going to make some adjustments for my own Ltd sampler-- of course revisions are always fun-- different count linen and change some of the colors. But I am not ready to stitch it again just yet.
I wanted to get a few things out of the way as I mentioned earlier. First up is a finish of the new BBD LF series Wild Berries. I finished this up yesterday morning. I added the date 1928 for the birth year of my fathers mother. I think personalizing each one is a great idea, makes you think about which one will fit for each person. Since there are 12 in the series, there is amble designs for all of my family :)

I used 40ct Vintage Pecan Butter Lakeside and weighed stitching it in silk but since it is such a small project, the idea of changing it to silk made me tired. There are 13 colors in this little guy!!!!!! No thanks, I chose again to use the called for cottons. For little designs going forward, I am going to weigh my options before I choose the silks. I have made the decision already to stitch the BBD LF series in cottons. I know already I will stick to silks for the Hollyberry Farm series. I know I am just rambling now, but I am kind of over it. HA!!! I know I know. I am not going to give up my silk snob status, but for every 20+ silk projects, a cotton one wont kill me :), just makes me twitch a bit!!! HA HA!!!!!! Joking :)
Next up is a project started a bit ago and I want put it to bed also. These projects laying all over the place next to my stitching chair are starting to really get to me.

This one is called Poor Jack from Birds of a Feather. Totally OOP, but a classic and a staple for the Halloween collection. I have wanted to stitch this forever, and I have finally gotten my wish. Thank you very much :) Using mostly the called for colors, I did add a color for his pants and using BOF Sparrow Linen I can hardly stand it. I just LOVE IT. The colors almost glow they are soo bright. The center of the design stitched up in 2 days, however the border is taking forever, clearly, it isn't done yet. Maybe I need to either start stitching earlier in the night, or stay up later to make some serious progress, or quit my job...... the last isn't going to happen! I only finished 5 1/2 squares last night. Bummer! But by the end of the week hopefully.
Next up after this in the pile I don't know, but I will keep you all posted shortly :)
Hope everyone is have a great week so far!
Here it is,

Sorry for the wonky picture! I used the called for WDW colors along with 40ct Pecan Butter from Lakeside. It was a fast and relaxing stitch.
The time continues to fly by but almost 2 weeks ago my friend and I went to one of the best quilt shops in town and decided to do a quilt together. Great idea! She suggested we each pick out the needed charm pack and build our quilt from there. OK! Off we went to select our favorite colors and this is what I came up with

We settled on this pattern and I chose Blackbird Designs Field Notes. This is my 4th quilt and I am not always sure what the terms are. Like what is sashing? LOL. It was great fun to pick and choose and walk around the shop looking around for the perfect charm pack. I felt the hunt was on!! In record speed we both came up with gorgeous fabrics and I am looking forward to seeing her progress soon. I couldnt wait however I wanted to start right away, but I had a few other priorities to get out of the way first. I was so eager to start it!!!!!

After coming home and showing my husband what I had chose, we both agreed this quilt would be perfect for our bed. But, with only 1 charm pack, it would be too small. So darn it, we had to go back to the quilt shop!!! With record speed, I went back Friday morning. This past week Tuesday, I cut the sashing, squares and sewed them together. Wednesday the strips were sewn together and I realized even with the 2nd charm pack, I was still short 9 squares to make the size I wanted. So, I went stash diving and chose another pattern that worked perfectly and ta-da! Friday I sewed all the strips together and now I had 1 piece to move around instead of all the rows, numbered and organized. I added the 1 inch border on Saturday afternoon and this past Monday night, added the final floral border.

I am so excited with the way it turned out, and I am interested in adding another border just to make it a tad bigger to drape more on the bed, but I have to choose the color. Perhaps the same as the 1 inch, the grey color. We shall see! As for now, it is folded and ready to go to the quilter. I have even chosen the backing already.
Whats next?!
I started working on Notforgotten Farm Weep Not. I love these 3 Lori came out with and they are all a must-- but I had to make some adjustments from DMC. I think the colors needed to be more murky and dirty and drab for the content of the piece, after all she is in a coffin!!!!!! LOL. I chose some awesome WDW threads and a lakeside linen. I have the top floral done and I have to take a picture for you all to see how fantastic it is!!!
Until next time,

Happy Stitching!!

Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-73222664134907355872013-08-20T14:41:00.001-04:002013-08-20T14:43:53.648-04:00Few more to share with you!!What another fast summer we are having! Why do they go so fast, and winters so slow? The weather has been great and I have been enjoying each and every day. All sorts of fun activities have been going on.
I have a few more framed pieces to share with you that I havent had time to post.
First is Sarah Brown from Milady's Needle:

and her sister Margaret Brown:

Close up of the frame, which has a similar feel to the sampler border

I chose to stitch both samplers of Vintage Pear with silk threads, choosing similar colors to the originals. I just love the subtle differences and no, I didn't find it tedious stitching both of them. I found them relaxing to stitch on and was a bit sad when they were complete. Don't you just love how delicate they are?

Next up is a classic Goode Huswife piece- The Flowers of Lebanon (OOP):

I chose the same frame for flowers as The Black Forest (OOP) piece I did of hers a few years back. I added the below pic for a refresher, but I didnt have the framed one handy.

The colors on the black!!!! LOVE!!! Both stitched on 32ct <strike>burlap</strike> linen with NPI. Both funky in their own ways :)

Last but not least- the piece de resistance:

Stitching my Dutch Beauty in record time on 45ct lakeside Maritime White with overdyed silks I am OVER THE MOON WITH EXCITEMENT. Looking at it, its hard to believe its even mine!!! It is by far the largest sampler I have ever stitched and each and every time I look at it, I find something else I just love. Countless hours were spent on choosing the color placement just perfectly. WOW, what a piece of work!!!!

A close up of the frame I chose to use a dark teal blue fillet to offset the color in the sampler. Just a hint of color, but nothing too bright. I cant wait to find the perfect place to hang it. An accomplishment like no other for me. I love the larger samplers, I might complain a bit in the middle, but this one is a masterpiece.

I finished Peace House from La D Da, which I will share with you later this week. What is next to pick up and work on? I have to get BBD Wild Berries done, I started it with such a bang, but got distracted. HaHa! That is not something new is it?!! Speaking of new, anyone see some must haves for St. Charles market? I love the new BBD and the Plum Street pieces shown so far, I have been soooo excited for Yuletide since she <strike>teased</strike> showed us last year from the retreat at Shepherds Bush. But I cant wait to see the others! Of course the With thy Needle and Thread Ltd. Kit. What else so far am I missing?!!!!! LOL.

Looking forward to a great week, and I hope all of you have one as well!! Happy stitching :)Love to Stitchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09507404401341001195noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5287572113961381980.post-43860836129894596592013-08-07T15:33:00.002-04:002013-08-07T15:33:26.682-04:002 Things

A while ago I dropped off and picked up some pieces at the framers and I wanted to share 2 of them with you today.
I am thrilled of course with the results (as always) and feel like each frame fits each piece.
First up is Lizzie Kate -Green, this was my Olympic project from last year, and it is not a typical piece I would do, which I think is great. I am trying to peek my head out of the box, and look around, but mostly feel most comfortable on the bottom of it. LOL. I am not the only one I am sure :)

The simple frame chosen is mossy brown, hint of green and perfect to accent the piece. I stitched this Green piece on Vintage Pear, I know, you can hardly tell, but you will just have to take my word for it! Haha. The trouble with getting the shading right, sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt.
The next piece up is Little House Needleworks - Nantucket.

I couldn't be more pleased with the look of this frame with this design!! I love the weathered look and the bead with both the brown and black coloring. It really pops the colors I chose with the Vintage Meadow Rue.

Until next post with a few more pics to share. I am hoping to finish La D Da Peace House, with fingers crossed, maybe tonight.
Thanks for stopping by and have a super day :)
